Hello Friends!
This is a November greeting from me! A new semester has almost past at YWAM Restenäs and what is Jenny really doing? It is a really good question that many have asked me. I would say my focus is mostly on teaching. I got some opportunities to teach outside of our Bible study schools. Once a week I am teaching in The DTS and have also been a stand in for my colleague Rosalie, doing bible studies in a prayer group within a local church.
We (me and two other ladies) are also about to start a new team that will work with getting teaching about how to study the Bible into churches and other places. I think God is up to something right now for his timing is just perfect. At the same time that we got this idea, there was a man with in a renewal organization within the “state church” who got a vision from God. He felt he was to create a platform for YWAM to reach out to the churches in Sweden. That also lead us to co-work with our own mobilizing team on the base and we had a meeting that was very inspiring for all of us. I notice that is not so easy to explain such thing that is just about to start. We don’t even have a name yet, but at least it is exciting to see all the possibilities ahead of us and try to imagine what God wants to do!
Except from the biblical studies and teaching this fall I have joined YWAM Restenäs’ Training Team, that overseas all the schools on our base. Our role is mainly to make sure everything goes on as it should and that our dear school leaders are doing well, but also look into the future of the training of YWAM Restenäs. At the moment we run four schools: Nine month Bible Studies, School of Intercessory Prayer, School of Communication foundations, Discipleship Training school.

Moreover I have also been to India!! I went there together with two lovely teenagers and a wonderful brother in June this year. It was a very good experience that I remember with much joy. Mostly we worked with the kids in the village where we lived. Two of our Indian co-workers are running an after-school program with the purpose to help the kids with homework, teaching English, singing and playing with them. During our two weeks visit it this program was in our hands. We did biblical dramas, English, Geographical teaching, singing and dancing. Father Abraham quickly became a favorite no matter in what language it was sung. I was so encouraged to see how God uses our friends who are working with the kids and people in the village. They have really got the people’s trust and a great opportunity to share their lives and faith in Jesus. Something like that cannot be done over one night, but through faithful work and perseverance. Dinner at homes

A couple of times per term we arrange a "dinner at homes", inviting our students for dinner to all our households and families. It is always a great time of fellowship and yummy food. Please note that I am NOT poking that chopstick into my nose, even if it might look like that on this picture :)

Hej mina vänner!
Nu kommer en oktoberhälsning från mig! En ny termin har börjat på UMU Restenäs och vad gör egentligen Jenny? Det är en väldigt bra fråga som många frågar mig. Mitt fokus just nu är mestadels på undervisning. Jag har fått många möjligheter att undervisa utanför våra bibelstudieskolor. En gång i veckan undervisar jag i Lärjungaträningskolan (DTS) och hoppar in för min kollega Rosalie med bibelstudier lokal cellgrupp.

Vi (jag och två andra damer) håller dessutom på att starta upp ett team som kan jobba med att få ut bibelundervisning i kyrkor o.s.v. Jag tror Gud har något i görningen för oss just nu, för hans tajming är perfekt. Samtidigt som vi fick den här idén fick en man inom oas-rörelsen en vision frång Gud om att skapa en plattform för UMU att nå ut till kyrkorna i Sverige. Det i sin tur öppnade också våra ögon för att samarbeta med vårat eget mobiliserings-team på basen och vi hade ett möte med alla tre parter som var väldigt inspirerande för oss alla. Jag märker att det är inte helt enkelt att förklara något som bara är i uppstarten. Vi har inte ens kommit fram till ett namn, men det är spännande att se alla möjligheter framför oss och försöka ana vad Gud vill göra!

Förutom bibliska studier och undervisning är jag i höst med i UMU Restenäs sk. ”training-team”. Jag hittade verkligen inget passande ord på svenska, men det betyder att jag jobbar i ett team som ser över alla de skolorna vi har på basen. Vi ska se till att allt rullar på som det ska och att våra skolledare mår bra. Just nu har UMU Restenäs fyra skolor: Nio månaders Bibelstudiekurs, Böneskola, Kommunikationsskola och Lärjungaträningsskola.

Jag har ju varit i Indien också! Tillsammans med två fina tonnåringar och en underbar broder åkte jag i Juni till Norra Indien. Det var en väldigt bra resa som jag ser tillbaka på med glädje. Vi jobbade mestadels med barnen uppe i byn som vi bodde i. Två av våra indiska medarbetare driver ett program efter skoltid där de hjälper barnen med läxor, lär dem engelska, sjunger och leker med dem. Under de två veckor vi var där höll vi i programet. Det blev bibliska draman, engelska glosor, geografilektioner, sång och dans. Fader Abraham var barnens stora favorit oavsätt vilket språk vi sjöng på. Jag blev så uppmuntrad av att se hur Gud använder våra lokala vänner som jobbar med barnen och människorna i byn. De har verkligen fått förtoende där och en fantastisk möjlighet att dela sina liv och sin tro på Jesus. Något sådant händer inte över en natt, men genom troget arbete i uthållighet. Jag har skrivit lite mer om Indien och lagt upp bilder tidigare på bloggen. Kolla gärna på det!

Today two cool things happened that I want to share. I kind of see God in it even if it was small. I bought a gift for a girl from India, a movie that I knew she liked. I was not sure if she already had it though. She then told me that she bought it once. “Oh no” I was thinking, but she continued that it actually got stolen on the way and now she was so happy to get a new one.

Second thing… One of my old students just got to know that she would get 500SEK back from her school fee. She wrote me back that she had recently donated that much in offering (though it felt a bit too much) and now she got it all back!

I got sort of encouraged by these events. Hope you are as well :)

While I was lying awake in my bed I came to think about how easy it is to make mistakes. I consider myself quite professional when it comes to that. Since I am up anyway I thought I might as well share some of them…

I was talking to one of the guys in the Korean DTS and I was going to answer him (in Korean): I don’t know. However I for some reason mixed it up with “Do you want to die?” To me those Korean phrases are quite similar…

Another time (and this also involves a Korean actually) my student skyped me to ask a question. I was going to write him back “Hello”, but I forgot the “o”… Ooops!

So basically I am swearing at my students and threatening to kill people.

I guess what I appreciated most with these kids was their gratitude. They acted like kids mostly do: fighting with each other, not always listening etc. But is seems like a balloon from MC Donald’s was not something they took for granted. They did not complain about school and all that they had to learn. Instead they thanked us the last day for everything we had taught them. It was very touching. It made it so worth spending our time there.

Encouragement for a brother (from yet another mother)

On a Saturday our plan was to go and visit the refugee camp. However the rein was pouring down and none of us were really keen on going. After worship and some prayer many of us felt that we should go anyway. So we did. It was harder then I remember it from last time's visit. Living in a refugee camp seams a lot easier when the sun is shining. Now the kids were wet dirty smelly, snotty and some with infected ears or wounds (but still so precious of course!). It is hard to take in that it is their everyday life (not only occasionally like as if it was a summer camp, festival or something). But we spent some time in the tent of a Christian brother in the camp. We shared testimonies and prayed together. The man in there told us that he had prayed earlier that day that someone would come and visit him so he could have some fellowship with other Christians. We were very glad and thankful to God that he had sent us there. This was one of many ways that God showed us that he was there to guide and lead our trip.

Tutoring 2-4 Mondays to Fridays

We spent most of the time joining two local brothers (from other mothers) in their tutoring program for the kids in the village. The purpose is to help them with homework, English and play with them and love them. It felt very meaningful that we could give out to them and know that after our short time there our friends could follow it up. We did some dramas, songs, games, taught them new words, geography etc.

I asked some of the kids where Africa were and they were searching on the map up in Russia, so I figured that some lessons in geography could be helpful and it was something I really enjoyed to do.

When we did some repeating I asked: Does anyone remember the capital of Sweden? One boy that I had been talking to a lot waved with his hand and shouted: Stenungsund!! I had told him that is the name of my hometown and of course it sounds quite similar to Stockholm.

The women around sometimes also joined from a distance and in the end of each day we were of course offered some chai.

Sometimes you get good ideas. Inspired by my childhood memories me and some friends decided to go crab-fishing. I have never during my whole life taken any home to eat (and now I know why). But we decided to take some with us and try. So here is the result. We googled well for instructions and it ended up in a massacre. I think the meet that we got represented maybe one shrimp each, but it was quite tasty...

Idag är en lycklig dag. Jag kom just hem från vår lilla roadtrip från "Peace and Love" in Borlänge. Det har varit en bra vecka med musik från M.I.A, Timbuktu, Håkan Hellström m.fl,givande samtal i festival-kyrkan, goda vänner. När jag kom hem hade jag dessutom fått en massa brev och lappar från vänner med värmande och uppmuntrande ord och jag upptäckte att jag kunde betala alla in ALLA PENGARNA till INDIENRESAN. Tack Gud, du är så trofast!

Jag fick mig ett gott skratt idag på fikat, då mina vänner delade med sig av sina "svenska-bloopers". Min afrikanske vän hade avslutat ett kyrkomöte med att säga: Tack för alla era bönor! Detta påminde oss om då han på en svensklektion hade föreslagit att de på sin avslutning "kunde göra en skit". Han menade såklart en sketch som på engelska blir "skit". Då berättade min Schweiziska väninna att hon på SFI blivit sen p.g.a. snön och ursäktat sig med att bussen var "förstoppad".

During New Year some of us from YWAM Restenäs went to attend a youth camp organized by a movement in the State Church. Our goal was to promote mission and we wanted to do that in a very visual way. So we decided to dress up according to one of our focus areas each day. We hanged out in the café room and invited the youths to have tea or play games (connected to the nation we represented). Sometimes we regretted it, but we had a deal within the team: keep your custom the whole day.
- Hela dagen! (The whole day) We reminded each other if anyone complained and wanted to take it off. Therefore we had to attend the meetings and eat in the dinning hall in funny hats, dresses and veils. But it seemed to be a very good eye opener. Mission is not about strangers out there, but real people that needs God!

India, December 2010
Our Indian journey started at the Delhi airport where we jumped into a taxi that was going to take us a long, long way up into the mountain area. Pretty soon we started to see the streets full of cars, people and yes of course: cows! Apparently horning is a part of the Indian driving style. It is polite even. “Blow horn please” it said on most of the trucks. I enjoyed watching people from the car (since we were in a lot of traffic jam we had plenty of time to look around) and they seemed have fun at us as well. The roads got more and narrower as we were getting more close to our destination and my friend in the front seat was screaming loudly more than once. But we had a really good driver and as I tried not to think of what could happen it was a lot of fun.

The days in India we spent either on the base, hanging out with the people there. They did a great impression on me with their love, fellowship and zeal for God. But we were also spending a lot of time out on the shopping streets, since we figured out that is the best way to get involved with people around us (and to get the Christmas shopping done).
- Earrings Madame? Asked the salesman with a given Hindi accent.
- Earrings Madame? Imitated Alicia, not considering that he was still standing next to
her. He was laughing as much as we did.

One of my favourite days was a Sunday. We went to a little house church and one of our fellow YWAMer preached about God’s love and the cross. After coffee and some pictures taken we continued to a refugee’s camp where we played and danced with some kids. It was a quite weird and pleasant situation to be surrounded with dozens of kids wanting to hold you hand and play with your hair and one of the boys became my bracelet for a while, following me wherever I went. This was not the only time that we run into kids that surrounded and wanted to talk to us and I felt that the kids was something God put on my heart to pray for when I was there, especially the young boys that we saw as monks in the temple. They were probably not living in such peaceful environment as one could think…

Another highlight was a “fun night” we had at the base, making a bonfire, reading poems and singing songs to each other. Since we were many Swedish girls we were performing some songs, which were quite popular, especially when we did it with our high voices pretending to be mice.

Therefore we also did the Swedish Lucia an early morning for the staff on and around the base. Some though that we were angels. Even if we did a lot of Christmas singing it was hard to grasp that it was Advent when we were there. The sun was shining almost everyday and it was just so very different to what Sweden is like in December. I am so glad we did that trip though. I could see that it really affected me and gave me joy to continue with mission.

God's presence in "small things"

I was reminded today of how real God can be in our everyday life. I just came back from a big New Year youth camp. It was quite intense and one of the days I had a headache the whole day. But at the evening meeting it hit me that I could pray and ask God about it and so I did. The pain eased immediately.

Another evening I was in a hurry to leave the building, but I could not find my shoes (they were black just as everybody else’s. A guy that found me frustrated reminded me that prayer always helps. So I did and tried also to listen to God where to look. So I looked to the right and a bit more to the right, under a jacket and there was my shoe!

I just love how God is so present in small things throughout the whole day :)

I am in cold Sweden. Mom is watching downhill skiing on TV. I think that means she is a sleep. I think I will go to bed soon too. I am impressed with myself that I am allmost packed and ready. It is only quarter past ten and I leave for India tomorrow morning! wohoo.

We had a funny cultural experience the other day at our staff meeting. A guy was teaching us on different cultures views on ex. Leadership, individualism etc. We had to respond to questions according to what our culture was like and move one step in a certain direction in the room depending on what we answered. Of course the Scandinavians ended up in one corner and Koreans, Americans etc in the other corner when it comes to questions about a leaders status and privileges (in Sweden everyone suppose to be as equal as possible).

Our next task was to discuss a made up issue at a work place and how people from our culture would handle it with people standing next to us (from a similar culture). The conclusion from the Swedes was after a while that of course there would be policies and regulations (Swedes are crazy about rules and policies and they cannot be broken) about the issue! This was quite proved just a bit later when we were going to take our seats again. Just as we were going to put the chairs back someone says: “We need to attach the chairs to each other again.” So all the Scandinavians starts to line up and sit down in rows while the Americans, Africans and Asians on the other side group their chairs randomly. Soon we all notice and laughers are spreading. The teacher also points it out. “It’s a policy!! Someone from our part of the room shouts. Yes, according to Swedish law the chairs need to be attached to each other in lines because of fire regulations, for safety.

I would maybe not have noticed if someone had not pointed it out, but of course I immediately felt a responsibility to keep the security and the law!

Hittade gamla dagboksanteckningar från min DTS outreach. Här är några små utklipp!

Beijing, 5 december (fjärde dagen)
… Ikväll flyttar vi in i vår lägenhet. Ska bli skönt att ha ett hem för en månad. Jag har blivit ganska skicklig med kinapinnarna och idag har jag erfarit min första ”hål-i-golvet-toalett”. Det var inte så farligt som jag trodde. I söndags firade vi 1:a advent mer fyra tårtljus i uppochnedvända pappersmuggar. Nu är det matdags. Undrar vad det blir… Ris är min favorit…

6 december
… Idag har vi haft vår första lektion i kinesiska…

7 december
… Idag har vi börjat gå runt för att skaffa vänner. Jag och Hope träffade Ju och hennes dotter Mim Mim. De var ute och gick i parken. Så vi stannade och pratade lite med dem. Nin Nin kunde ju inte engelska förståss, men försökte ändå prata med oss. ”Ni hao” sa vi.

15 december
Ganska nyligen hemkommen fån en shoppingrunda med Kate, Tinita och A. Det är galet att shoppa här. Expediterna springer efter dig. Kate tog upp en sko för att kolla och damen trodde att hon ville köpa den och försökte ge henne ett pris, lägre och lägre… - Bú yào xiè xiè, försökte vi, men hon kom ändå efter oss. Det var väldigt skönt att ha A. ed oss som översättare och som faktiskt förstod vad det stod i menyerna på restaurangen! Annars går vi mest efter bilderna och det som vi igår trodde var aubergin visade sig vara fisk. Stackars vegetarianer!...

… Idag åt vi mat som var ”hèn là”, very spicy.

16 december
Idag har vi varit på en skola och pratat om julen. Vi sjöng några sånger för dem. Bl.a. små grodorna, runt vår egna julgran Kaleb. Barnen tyckte det var väldans roligt….
… Ännu några språkgrodor. Kate svarade telefonen med att säga: ”Wo hen hao = jag mår bra. Tinita fortsätter att säga ”Hur mycket kostar den”, när hon krockade med en man med en massa kundvagnar. Han kanske trodde att hon ville köpa dem… Pratade med en man på tunnelbanan idag. Råkade sätta mig på hans kappa. Det är så man skapar kontakt!...

19 december
Vi börjar närma oss jul och jag insåg just att jag inte använt en gaffel på nästan tre veckor…
… Efter lunch åkte alla damer i teamet (över 5) ut till en skola för tjejer i övre tonåren och runt tjugo. Vi hjälpte till under deras engelska lektion. De var verkligen underbara och väldigt tacksamma över vårt besök. De flesta av dem kommer från landsbygden, med kinder röda från kylan och uppvuxna under väldigt fattiga förhållanden. Vi avslutade med att sunga två julsånger med dem…
… Imorgon ska vi äntligen se muren. Vilken lycka!

21 december
… Sedan tog vi en stolslift upp. Redan då upptäckte vi hur fantastisk utsikten var. Bergen är otroligt vackra och vi hade tur för solen sken den här dagen. Så vi knallade runt på muren ett tag. Det går lite upp och ned och rätt var det är kommer det en ”tunnel”. Jag tog ca en miljon kort tror jag. Vi var väl förberedda med en massa kläder, för det är kallt och blåser så hög upp hade vi hört. Det var det inte. Vi var rätt så svettiga efter ett tag…
… Mysigt att äta jordnötsmör och syltmackor, grönsaker och frukt på muren i solen. Hur många har gjort små grodorna på kinesiska muren? Det gjorde vi i alla fall….

… Idag är det sabbat och jag och Tinita har haft en rolig dag på silk och pärlmarknaden. Vi flummade mest runt utan att köpa så mycket och vi höll på att dö av värmeslag eftersom vi hade alldeles för mycket kläder på oss…

Juldagen
Nu är det jul igen… och vilken jul se’n! Väldigt annorlunda på många vi, men det kändes att det var julafton igår när jag vaknade…
… Alla var lite stressade, så vi gick nog varandra lite på nerverna och ja ville bara hem till Sverige. Men det mesta löste sig när det var dags för middagen och alla var finklädda. Då hade också det mesta av limlukten försvunnit. Jag och Ann- Marie höll på att halvt gasa ihjäl oss alla med lim (som jag köpte här) när vi gjorde dekorationer till julbordet.

… När alla satt framför TV:n och tittade på julfilmer passade jag på att improvisera fram risgrynsgröt i ett tomt kök. Det var första gången och gjort av redan kokt kinaris, men det blev riktigt lyckat och en god frukost i morse…

… Jag blev väldigt förvånad när jag öppnade det första paketet som innehöll pepparkakor! Hembakta och transporterade från Sverige till USA till Kina! Några av dem var t.o.m. hela 

Dagarna innan jul tillbringade vi bl.a. på skolorna vi besökte tidigare.

Me and Christian are on a "mob-trip" to Värnamo. Non of us are in the actual mob-team (From YWAM Restenäs), but we managed to serve chai tea and inspire youths for mission at a conferernce called "Vision".

It is time for an update from Jennyland(I will also send out an newsletter soon). It has been some quite empty weeks for me schedule wise. Since I know it is not forever it has not bothered me too much, but I sure feel it is better now when my schedule is getting busier and busier. I am now mostly studying the first letter of John, in order to prepare a teaching in the School of Biblical Studies. It is my third time to teach it which makes me very excited and I am expecting to see new things or reminded of old cool stuff. I realized how much I love this letter and the person of John, whom was so close to Jesus!

And here is some exciting news! I am going to India two weeks in December!!! I don’t know what to expect from that, but I have wormed up by trying out Punjabis (Indian clothes) and listened to the music from “Slumdog Millionaire”. We are going to the northern part in the mountain area. It might be cold, so I am almost nervous because of that…

En facebook-status fick mig och minnas något väldigt roligt från min barndom (fast jag var nog i tonåren). Vi var på semester i Turkiet och min kära lillasyster skriver ett vykort till en vän. "Vi har det bra här i Turkiet. Vi badar i polen..." Som den typiska storasyster jag är påpekar jag det (Det hade ju vart roligt om vi var tvungna att åka ända till Polen för att bada!)och berättar vad hon ska ändra. Lite senare: "Vi har det bra här i Turkiet. Vi badar i pollen." Tur att vi inte var allergiker.

Till min systers försvar är ju "pool" ett utländskt ord och hon är typ tio.

Försökte säga åt några av barnen ikväll att de inte fick springa runt i klassrummet, men jag förstår om de inte kunde ta mig på allvar när jag hade ett par byxor på huvudet, en koreansk herrkappa och högklackat. Det hade nog inte jag heller gjort. Men jag hade väldigt kul åt de små "hippisarna", speciellt en treårig pojke med rosa glasögon.

Det kan vara skönt att vara med i barngruppen ibland på tisdagskvällarna istället för möte. Då kan man klä ut sig, leka med ballonger och annat skoj.

Gör som Di Leva, skaffa crocks :)

What is going on in Jennyland?

I have not updated much lately. I think I rediscover a lot what mission is about. I had the great privilege to teach the historical background of the book of Acts to our 4 students in Ljungskile. I always get so blown away when I see the timing of Gods actions. He chose to send his son into the centre of the earth. Yes it is true. When looking on a map one can see that Jerusalem is such a strategic place that combines basically 3 continents. At this time they were also unified in one big empire by the Romans. Everyone could speak the same language and it was easy and smooth to travel there.

The date for pouring out His Spirit on all people is also very well planned (Acts 2) because He knew that Jews from all directions would be there and could take the gospel with them home immediately. That is like the first explosion of the gospel.

But God wanted more! It was not obvious for the Jews but we see in Acts that God also wants to reach the Gentiles, but that was his plan. So even if it had to be by persecution the gospel reached even the Samarians (8:1). (The Samarians were a blend people of Jews from the lost northern tribes and the worst enemies of the Jews.)

He hunts Paul down and makes him go to the Gentiles. It is not a coincidence that he chose this man. Paul is a Roman citizen and has many privileges that profit the gospel. He knows both the law well, but also Greek and can speak well to defend himself in front of important people.

The key passage in acts is 1:8, a promise that the Holy Spirit through the disciples would reach the whole world. The gospel actually reached what was the whole world in their sight, the Roman Empire, from Jerusalem (religious centre) to Rome (political centre), but I really see in this book how much God longs to meet with all people and gather them to himself.

Therefore it makes me excited to be part of one of the biggest mission organizations of the world. I want to do my part and I pray God would teach me even more and give me his heart for people that I meet and understand his love for me as well.

Me and my brother went fishing this summer. We got nothing, but it was a beatuful evening!

The fall of newness

This is a quite exciting time of changing in my life. As we noticed that no students were applying for our school (BCC) both me, Rosalie and Phil felt that we were maybe not to run the school as normal and that something different is laying ahead. We have therefore started to make plans, but right now we can do nothing but wait for answers that are not for us to decide. I feel the LORD says just to wait for now and I am totally fine with that.

This spring I will be a school leader for a school that I have neither done myself nor staffed. That feels a bit scary, but I am glad that I have this half a year to plan and grow into it. I will have the former leader by my side to help me.

Right now I am making timelines over both NT and OT and studying Acts, which I might teach this fall. It raises a lot of questions. Are we not supposed to live more like that? Or was that just something for the early church. I think the challenge is to see what are timeless principles that we are to follow and what was just culture of that time (and the fact that they were the first ones to spread the gospel and to lay a foundation for the whole world wide church). Any way it raises a curiosity in me to get to know the Holy Spirit more.

Yes, this is our last long weekend and we have a bit more then a month left of the school now. I decided to stay and do some studies on Zechariah which I will be teaching in two weeks. I found a good website that I though I should share: www.thesbspodcast.com

I am back from a good and interesting trip in Eastern Europe. I probably have a lot to write, but let's start somewhere. Our main goal was to go to the conference called Equip. The purpose is what it sounds like; to equip YWAMers in our ministries. I felt it was really helpful actually. I went to two modules: How to lead a small group and Life coaching. I think to summarize it I learned one important thing: to ask the right questions. Either to open up a conversation in a group or ask questions on a one on one that would help them to discover the answers themselves. As someone has said "The right kind of question contains half the answer." (Sorry I lost the name.)

Before we came to Timisoara in Romania where the conference was held we flew to Budapest. Our time there was a bit more busy than expected we ended up walking back and forth in the city for almost a whole day. I got to try some nice food though. Goulash two times actually. It seems like some kind of pancake dessert with sweet cheese is common too, which I tried at a café.

So early morning, Sunday we took a train to Romania. That was a highlight I think. We saw a lot of what the country side looks like. It was very interesting to observe the differences between the two nations. Hungary seems to me more western, but I have to say I was quite charmed by Romania. I was very happy to get a stamp in my passport from the Hungarian police, but on the other side of the border they were not as generous. They said "bună ziua". That means good day we founded out later, but it sounded like "See ya!" so that's what we replied back. (As if we wood see them again at the next stop or something) We laughed for a long time when we realized our mistake.

Another fun moment was later on the bus. We heard a cell phone signal with hip-hop music. When we turned around we saw one of these old ladies with a scarf over her head answering her phone. What a contrast!

Har nyligen upptäckt ett nytt muffins-recept. Eller ja, själva receptet är vanliga kladdkake muffins (bör dock innehålla lite bakpulver). Det är själva toppingen som är spännande. Den kallas dumle-fluff. Eftersom denna efterrätt har varit så populär tänkte jag dela med mig (det är dock inte min idé). Tag 2,5 dl grädde och värm (bör nog inte koka). Vispa ner ca 15 hackade dumlekolor tills de smälter in i grädden. Låt svalna under natten och vispa nästa dag (som vanlig vispgrädde). Klicka på muffinsarna och dekorera med en lite dumle :). Mmmm... Tänkte att det måste vara fantastiskt gott att göra med lakrits-dumle, men det verkar som om de är på väg att dö ut!! Huu så hemskt!

Spring break!

It has been some days of action in my life. First of all we finished SBS 2 (of 3 semesters) with some cooking and baking. On the menu we had spring roles, Thai stew and chocolate muffins (a new fresh Swedish recipe!)

The day after that (Saturday) Restenäs had two days of "make over”. Some of us was expending our workday and went to our neighbors to work on their roof. It was so cool to be able to help them and do a job in one day that would take the family father so much more time (or an expensive cost for carpenters). This is the family that I and some other girls go to, to help out with their handicapped daughter. This tree year old has really captured my heart! It is just amazing to see her grow and get stronger. I don't know what it is, but it is like God has put something extra ordinary into those people that are weak in the eyes of humans. This is for sure one of my highlights in the week.

Sunday I practiced on my new hobby as a hairdresser on two friends at the base. Just when me and my friend Ingelin was about to cook dinner we found out that one of the girls in the house got really sick. Soon we were taking her to the hospital, waiting there, but we did not get much answer about her stomach pains (we still don't know). So she had to stay there. That adventure ended up in a long waited for visit at McDonalds. I don't go there very often, but this was the second time in four days. So now I have my own menu: Chicken wrap and a cheeseburger menu.

Now I am in my parents place and so far it had been much more calm then last week (except that me and my brother got lost when we went running).

När man har nymålade naglar märker man hur mycket man faktiskt använder sina fingrar.

Men nu är det en NY vecka, en NY säsong, men vi har en GAMMAL lärare och ett GAMMALT testament. Vi är alltså färdiga med Nya Testamentet och har börjat 1sta Moseboken nu. Med gammal lärare menar jag att vi hade honom förra veckan också. Nu undervisare han en överblick av Gamla Testamentet. Jag tror eleverna är exalterade. Det är jag också.

Busy days...

So, last weekend we went down south to bless Skåne. I dare to say that our whole team had a pretty good time!

Our first mission on Thursday was a bible study with a group of students in Lund, but before that we were invited to a dinner at the Prins' family, where also half of the group were staying. So sweet of them to have us!
The bible study went well and I was sooo proud of our students! They had drawn out a lot from 3rd John and also "the letter to Philemon" and presented it very creatively.

Friday was a bit different. We hang out in the town of Lund. I especially enjoyed a cup of coffee at one of my favorite cafés! After lunch we headed for Malmö. There we met a DTS team from Kohna, Hawaii!! It is amazing to see that God sends people all over the sea to Sweden! Their ministry really challenged us. They were hanging our in the "ghetto" and asked God for direction each day and talked to and hanged out with people that they meat on the street etc. In the night we had American "macaroni and cheese” with them and prayed all together with some house churches and people that had a heart to pray for Malmö. It was a special and very good night!

Saturday we headed home to the base again and started to read Revelation. This whole week we have spent in class, listening to teaching and the students are studying like crazy :)

But the sun is shining over our snowy landscape, so me and my Norwegian friend are planning to take a walk.

It is time for an update from SBS!!
Second term has started. Oh, it is so challenging and fun to run a school and work in a team. I am really thankful for what experiences it is giving me!

Last Friday I taught 1 John. When I went through my stuff from last yeah I felt I did not really grasp the book as much as I had hoped I did. For a while I felt like I must be the worst teacher ever and did not at all looking forward to it. But God reminded me of the verse: 2:20 “you have been anointed by the Holy One”. For me that speak of something being consecrated for a holy purpose (that is the idea from the Old Testament). So I just had to put my trust in God and I think I have never enjoyed a teaching that much. It was fun discovering the book together with the students and I had the chance to share and let them know me better as well. Praise God 

Now more exciting things are coming up. On Thursday all students and most of the staff are leaving for an outreach to Lund/Malmö (South Sweden) This is my old home and of course I am very exciting and quite nervous, since I have suddenly a lot of responsible in this project. If you read, please stand with us in prayer. We will share some teaching there with students in Lund and then meet with another YWAM team from Khona Hawaii that are doing an outreach as well in Malmö. This can be a lot of fun! 

I just put up a 3 step Bible study method. This is the basics in what we do in School of Biblical studies. The point is to let the Bible speak to you and not the other say around. I thought it could help you (who are intrested) in your own Bible reading as well. Please let me know if you have questions!

Step 1 Observation

What does it actually say?? This is in one way the most important part. If we fail here the rest of our studies will fail as well. Some colors can help! It might be a bit scary to mark in you Bible. You can practice on a printed copy if you'd like. Mark out what you see. Color people, places, repeated words or themes. Other things can be: Contrasts, words that connect ideas together like; because, therefore, since then... But most important is to look at the context and the big picture. Never draw a verse out o its context to give it a new meaning!

Step 2 Interpretation

When we have found out what the text says we want to ask ourself: Why is this written? What there a certain situation that the author is talking to? It helps to find out as much historical background as possible. Ex: Who wrote it? To whom? What type of literature is it? Lots of information is possible to get from the text itself and other books in the Bible itself. Acts is for example a very good historical account for Paul's letters. But also outside information from history books (or wikipedia!!) is helpful. If we do this we will find biblical principles and God's heart behind each book.

Step 3 Application

This is the last part in Inductive bible study. Before we move on to this we need to figure out: What is the Timeless truth in this passage? For example we might find something about God's character and we know that that does not change! It is really important that what we read and learn from the Bible does not just become doctrines or ideas, but that we actually act upon it and reflect God's character to the world!

SBS keeps going well. The students are hanging in there and so is the staff. November is not as cold as expected. I had to take my jacket off as I was running from the dining hall... Right now the sun is shining in through the window. Something Sweden is not spoiled with during the dark time of the year.

We have just started a choir on the base and we are practicing for the Lucia celebration. I am very happy to be in a choir again.

Some news: Me and my team mate Andrea (Switzerland) are now once a week visiting a neighbor girl. She is 2 1/2 years old and due to a handicap she needs some help with a type of exercise that stimulates both the body and the brain. She is so cute and we hope for a really good relationship to these neighbors. The parents are also very sweet.

What is Jenny's plan?
Don't ask me. I don't know! No, I am kidding, but I had a really good conversation with one from the leader team yesterday. It made me feel much better about the future. I do have the big picture: I want and feel called to work with teaching and Bible studies. But I feel God gives me freedom to choose and try out different ways. I am excited about that. God is good. Let's not forget that!

More over I have also lately tried out to be a hairdresser, cutting peoples hair here on the base. It's a lot of fun and they are so brave to let me put the scissors to their head :)!!

Coming up next: My 1st John teaching the 15th of January. I am really looking forward to it. It was the first book I ever taught and I hope that God will show me new things now and go deeper. Please pray with me for that!

I am back on Restenäs after a really nice weekend in Lund, celebrating my friends’ wedding with the old gang from there.

So, the SBS is rolling. I have just finished teaching Mark. It went well, even thought I see that I have a lot to learn. It makes me excited, because I do believe I have the potential to become a good teacher it I just work on it!

Now I have a break from teaching until January. This will be a time to pray and think about the future. Maybe I’ll come up with a plan 

SBS starts today

Today it all begins!! Some students have allready arrived and the rest is coming today (except one girl). It is to scary and exciting at the same time. This is a new bunch of people that will get to know God and his word better during 9 month! Halleluja :)
